Events on Panchayat Raj Day(24th April)

Every Year Panchayti Raj day is celebrated on 24th April. This year Gram uday se Bharat uday programme programme is held on commemoration of the 125th Birthday of Dr.Bhim Rao Ambedkar. Gram uday se Bharat uday programme is the all india campaign for the rural development and Social harmony.

This 11 day programme was initiated by the PM Narendra Modi at mhow,which is Birth place of the Dr.Bim Rao ambedkar. This event is programmed to concentrate upon the

1. Rural Development by empowering the gram sabha
2. Role of the women in the rural development
3. Optimum Utilisation of the funds available with Panchayat raj
4. Social Inclusion of vulnerable sections such as S.Cs, S.Ts ,persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
5. Clean drinking water and sanitation.

Through out the india, Gram sabhas were held from 21st to 24th april. Preceding this event, All india conference of the Presidents of Gram panchayats from Schedule areas of ten states was held at vijayawada.

Little Notes regarding Panchayat Raj:-

Panchayat raj was enjoined in the constitution with 73rd constitutional amendment. It can be seen in constitution in part-IX of indian constitution(from article 243- 243O ). Part -XI of indian constitution elucidates the subjects dealt by the panchayat raj. Originally,these provisions are not applicable to the Schedule areas but later are extended with PESA Act,1996(panchayat raj extension to Schedule areas).

Main Concentration of Panchayat raj are Drinking water and sanitation, Devolution of the Powers to Community, through which community development was envisaged,Empowerment of the women by providing 33%of reservation to the women, Empowerment of the Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe and other vulnerable Sections, Involvement of the Local people in the Planning and execution process,which enhances the responsibility as well as civic consciousness. and other provisions regarding rural development and social harmony.
